D Block, Dipset, and it's more like Yes Twist

I tried to get tickets today to see the Plug awards, but they were sold out on ticketmaster. I heard they were still selling on craiglist, but at that point I was already figuring I was going to be able to make it. It's too bad too, cuz it would have been insane to see Patton Oswalt, Dizzee Rascal, and Nick Cave on the same stage.

insane!

Thankfully, there has still been a bright spot in my life tonight.

The collaboration we've all been waiting for! Allright, so maybe That makes me sound a bit sarcastic, but in all seriousness this track is pretty cool and I'm still psyched for the Sheek solo album.

Also!

I'm pretty excited about the upcoming Notwist album, especially after hearing this track off of it.

that's all. peace.

I Went Bonkers in Yonkers

Right now, I am all about "Good Love" by Sheek Louch, from his upcoming album Silverback Gorilla. I've actually been meaning to write about it for a while now. I've been a fan of the D-Block boys since the Lox, but I have to admit I always thought Sheek was overshadowed by Styles P and Jadakiss. This song has totally changed my mind. I wouldn't say he's my new favorite, but he's definitely come up in terms of my admiration. Aside from being impressed with Sheek's performance, the production on this song is untouchable. Maybe I'm just a sucker for soul beats (I am), but I think it's nice to hear Sheek rapping over something a little more interesting than the standard 808 claps.
I'm a little surprised this song hit the radio when it did. The soulful hooks, the bubbly instrumentation, even the lyrical content, this has all the makings of a summer jam. Plus, it's one of those instances where the clean version is just as enjoyable as the dirty version, so listen to it while you're driving your Grandma around Florida. Hopefully when the album drops in March, the warm weather will have kicked in and this song can enjoy a little success. This is a track that deserves it.
b-b-b-bonus!

It Makes Me Smile

I just got home from the bar and I sat down to read some blogs. One of the first things I saw was this Trae track featuring Styles P and Jadakiss (westchester? what?) and in my un-sober state I thought it was a Lily Allen cover, just for a minute. Then I realized how absurd that idea is. Absolutely fucking absurd.

I can't believe I'm starting to like Papoose

So the recently released DJ Hi-Tek track "New York" is nice. The forthcoming album definitely makes October 17th something to look forward to.

What is not nice, is the cutting of Raekwon from the music video. Now I don't know if this is the way the video is going to be released or if this was just the folks at sohh.com cutting it down, or if there was a legal issue or what. Either way, it's lame. Sure the overexposure that he and his Wu brothers get here might make up for it, but it's still an injustice.

oh yeah I forgot

So two things about the show at Summerstage:

1. Pete Rock and his brother made a big point of shouting out every burrough of NY, except Staten Island, but there was no what's up to anywhere else. This wouldn't really be that weird, except for the fact that Pete Rock isn't even from the city. Jadakiss reps Yonkers, why can't you rep Mt. Vernon, Pete Rock? N.B. It was kind of funny when Pete's hypeman asked who was from Brooklyn and the response was deafening. I'm just guessing, but I don't think the Brooklyn that you hipster douches came from is the same Brooklyn he was asking about.

"Don't Get it Twisted, 914's where I'm listed" - Jadakiss, "If You Want it, You Can Get It" by the Lox

2. During Lady Sovereign's set she was joined onstage by a guy in a beret who painted two abstract pictures on two canvases, using spray paint, brushes, and markers. Now, out of context, his paintings were actually kind of cool. I just hate the fact that they included him in the show, this guy just dancing around, rocking his head, painting to Lady Sovereign. What are they trying to say here? That Lady Sov just moves people to create? Gimme a fucking break. It was just so contrived that it made me a little uneasy.
